Sorry all, but I’m trying to find a fast/hardy growing bush and keep seeing this in less than salubrious spots! What is it and would it fit the bill?

Some of the leaves look a bit like privet, and that would probably be suitable for you. It's fast, hardy, can be pruned neatly (you often see it as hedging) or left au naturel. It's also evergreen (except in really cold winters).

MessySurfaces · 03/06/2018 23:31

I don't think it's either of those- it looks like the twigs/fronds/stems are quite straight and long, and the leaves in neat pairs along the straight stems, is that right? MIL has one but I don't know what it is- watching with interest.

It’s a shrubby honeysuckle. Either Lonicera nitida or Lonicera pileata

Trethew · 04/06/2018 07:25

It’s easy, fast, evergreen and grows almost anywhere. Will need trimming to keep it dense and bushy, makes a good hedge if you don’t want anything too high

I can never answer them, but I love the garden ID posts!

And trethew gets the prize!!! Lonicera pileata, aka privet honeysuckle. Thank you so much and from the google images it’ll be perfect for covering a load of crappy ground areas where we just need to fill in and prevent copious weeds coming through. Xxx
