Neighbours Weeds

The bottom of my neighbours garden lies against the side of my front garden.
She split up from her husband about five years ago and has no interest in keeping the end of the garden tidy. She has a small lawn that she just about keeps trim.
I've helped out quite a bit, a tree fell into my garden last year and she was very upset and said she couldn't cope, so I got my Ds to cut it up and dispose of it. She seems to struggle money wise!
Anyway, the end of her garden is full of brambles and Vine weeds which are getting through the chain link fence and into a new Laurel Hedge that I have had planted. I paid a lot of money for 5' laurels.
What would you think if I sprayed weed killer over the fence, into the weeds. Of course it would have to be a calm day as I would not want the spray to get on the laurels.
I could ask her but last time I mentioned something to her, she seemed embarrassed and said that she had no interest in the garden and to just carry on and do what I wanted.
What would you do?
I'm a bit miffed at having to sort out her weeds but I couldn't really complain as she seems quite vulnerable and cries easily.

Just do it, why are you unsure when she said to do what you want?

MikeUniformMike · 01/06/2018 20:33

I would ask again, and if she agrees, deal with the weeds in her garden.
She will probably be OK about it.

When she said, just do what you want, it was about cutting a tree down.
I know that she would say to just do it, if I asked about killing the weeds.
I'm hesitant to ask her because I don't want to upset her and make her think that I am getting at her because of her neglected garden.
I'm just going to do it, I think!

Would you use the Weedol Path clear, as I doubt that she will be planting anything there and I have enough for 4 litres.

I would ask. It's a win-win if you do it so I doubt she'll say no.

I've done this with my neighbour's out of control bindweed. I used roundup- and be warned as it's done absolutely nothing! I reckon the buggers have enjoyed it as they seem to be growing even faster Confused

Misty9 · 01/06/2018 21:04

I did ask btw and they said do what you like.

HonkyWonkWoman · 01/06/2018 21:05

How would you feel about having to do this to keep a neighbours weeds from getting into yours?
Would it annoy you a bit?
Or would you just be pleased that the neighbour let you get on with it?

Are you on the other side of my neighbour Misty? 😂😂😂

If neighbour sprayed weedkiller on my garden I would sue.
If my garden was full of weeds like bramble, JK etc I'd be pleased.

Misty9 · 01/06/2018 21:22

Maybe Grin

Tbh, it pisses me right off that I spend more time defensive gardening, aka the bindweed battle, than keeping my own plants etc looking nice. Especially at this time of year.

Misty9 · 01/06/2018 21:24

I've missed the boat again this year as growing season is well underway, but we've been advised to take preventative measures by putting long plastic sheets down the dividing fence flower beds in an attempt to slow the bindweed down a bit. Otherwise we have to spend all our time pulling the bloody stuff up.

Kochkor · 01/06/2018 21:36

I just want to share your pain. My NDN is a hale and hearty 40 year old man, but his weeds invade my front garden, despite my furtive spraying with weedol.

HonkyWonkWoman · 02/06/2018 08:02

It's very annoying though, isn't it Misty and Kochkor!
The time and money spent on someone else's "garden".
Any advice on best killer for brambles?

Watching with interest for a solution, as my 'annoying neighbour' is the train line! Bindweed and ivy coming from every direction and would love a way to kill the buggers off instead of spending every weekend cutting them back!

We have it from both sides. Bags of the stuff. I want brick walls Angry
