Chelsea Flower Show: what does everyone think?

I liked the Hospitality Garden as I love acers and everything Japanese. The Silent Pool Gin Garden with its cottagey plants and contemporary look was also good I thought. The Pearlfisher Garden (underwater theme) was very clever too.

What did you think of all the yellow, the lupins and foxgloves, the sculptures and water features everywhere?

I'm only watching the BBC shows on catchup. If you were there, how did you find it?

I didn't go this year (have been a few times before) but watched it every night on catch up after hellish days at work! I love Chelsea.

Pleased to see that my one of my favourite plants, erygnium, was featured on catchup. I have a few varieties and am always on the lookout for more.

My favourite was the Yorkshire garden or whatever it was called, I grew up in upper Wharfedale and it just looked like home - was really pleased when it won the peoples award.

I wasn't keen on some of the sculptures - the round pointy sun in the garden with the two vicars - hated that.

I am busy today but inspired to go to Harlow Carr tomorrow for a bit of garden therapy ... and no doubt to buy a few plants.

I like the Yorkshire garden, very calm g and natural.
I'm also you for a yellow theme this year so was pleased to be on trend!!

Loved watching Chelsea, I’ve been once but Oh the crowds. I’m planning on going next year. I also loved the Yorkshire garden, but I’m a fan of haphazardly gardening.
The formal modern gardens are lovely, but I doubt I could ever keep one that way.
It’s interesting that they mostly have some water in them. I also move towards water and garden combinations.

Every year I promise myself that I'll go, and I leave it too late. My family are going to book me in for my birthday next year. It looks so beautiful and creative.

Malvern was much better
and cheaper
and the RHS member parking meant that we dropped stuff off at the car

I used to go to Chelsea every year
I went last year
I'll skip it till it gets back into gardening rather than
rich folks outdoor living
and corporate "see and be seen"

I was seduced by the alliums! They're not the sort of plants I usually like, but I want some!!!!

AgedTawnyPort · 28/05/2018 22:08

I didn’t see the alliums but said to someone today that I missed them in my new garden and must sort it out.

I have only ever been to Chelsea on a corporate ticket!

I learnt something today at Harlow Carr - the members library is fab, the book I was eyeing up online is in my handbag for up to three months foc as long as no one else reserves it. And they have a seed share which is fab👍🏻. Didn’t know either off those things despite being a member!

I was there (but never again, I hated the crowds, think they let too many people
in. It was also more retail (stalls etc) than gardens which I didn’t expect) and I loved the Yorkshire garden too. In real life and up close it was just so calming and realistic. The eco garden was gorgeous - I felt like I’d like to spend a week on holiday in it.
The cacti and bonsai displays were mesmerising.
But so so so very many people and queues for everything. Not worth £100+ a ticket, we felt like we needed to escape as soon as we got in and I don’t tend to get claustrophobic.

GingerKitCat · 28/05/2018 22:22

Agree with the negatives about Chelsea, I thought I was the only one!

Is anyone going to RHS Chatsworth?

TalkinPeece · 28/05/2018 22:43

A friend of mine is an exhibitor
(like over a dozen golds at Chelsea)
and he MUCH prefers Malvern ;-)
