Plant, it'll have pink flowers I think.

SergeantPfeffer · 12/05/2018 07:15

Weed. Looks like a buttercup to me, it’ll spread by runners if you leave it.

TweenageAngst · 12/05/2018 07:18

Creeping buttercup an invasive weed.

Izzywigs · 12/05/2018 08:25

Its a weed with pretty yellow buttercup flowers. Great in a shrubby unkempt garden. Dig it up if you like neat and tidy gardens as it spreads everywhere.

peridito · 12/05/2018 08:25

Couldn't it be a hardy geranium ?

Is it growing in the UK ?

ChishandFips33 · 12/05/2018 08:30

I think buttercup too.

greathat · 12/05/2018 08:45

Yes buttercup get it out or you will have hundreds

Harebellmeadow · 12/05/2018 12:31

Definitely buttercup

dayinlifeof · 12/05/2018 13:28

We've got them in our garden, they are lovely. Hundreds is fine.

VioletPickles · 12/05/2018 13:38

Thanks all, yes in the UK. Will probably dig up....

They self seeded (birds?) next to our wildlife pond, so far they haven't spread and we've been here for 10 years and have had them for the last 3. I disagree that they are only fine for 'scruffy' gardens.

tradervictoria · 12/05/2018 14:28

It is buttercup and you need to get rid of it before it self seeds or roots from remaining stems. It thrives in damp and poorly drained areas - is there any scope for you to improve the soil?

SergeantPfeffer · 12/05/2018 14:28

They’re good for wild areas but rubbish in a bed! Will quickly take over and swamp your plants if you let them. I’m happy to leave a few in more remote areas of the garden but not in the borders.

VioletPickles · 13/05/2018 02:13

The soil is terrible (new build) its like rubble on clay. Very wet and heavy. That bit does get the sun though. Difficult to know what to grow!

Another vote for buttercup - dig it up before it spreads!

@dayinlifeof
I think you might be thinking of potentilla?
