Lawn mowing etiquette

Our garden backs onto the junior school playground. I want to mow the lawn today. Am I right in thinking I should wait until after school to do it? Doesn't feel right to make that much noise while they are either learning or playing. Or am I over thinking it?!

You are definitely over thinking it. Just go and mow.

Unless you are about to reveal you have invented a 120 decibel ride on mower that plays Colonel Bogey while you tend to your 200 acre garden? Grin

I live next to a primary school; you’re over-thinking this unless you plan to do as ShotsFired says! If they have contractors in cutting the grass they do it within school hours.

do it whenever you want between 9am and 7-8pm

Well I think you're very kind to be considering others .

I wish more people did .

Nobody 's fault - work has to be done - but I've just had to come in from a lovely time in my garden because of the most awful noise from some heavy duty machinery being used on the forecourt of residential home that my garden almost backs on to .

It sounds like they're grinding stones .

The poor people in the home - I think they are adult special needs and the elderly confused residents of an adjacent nursing home .

It never stopped the council grounds men mowing outside my window when I was teaching GCSE English!Grin

I bet the school playground would beat your lawnmower in a decibel play-off.

Thanks for the kind (and sensible) feedback. Ironically the school grass was cut on Saturday from about 8am. I waited till 3.15, as it didn't get in the way of my day.

As given on this post, workhabor.com/lawn-mowing-etiquette/ you shouldn't be a nuisance to the pupils as they are concentrating. I would suggest you do it after school or on a weekend?

That's an American site, isn't it? (eg the idea the dew will be off the grass by 9am). I'm not sure US etiquette and UK etiquette are the same
