Is it too early to buy bedding plants?

My pots and troughs took a bit of a battering over the winter. They need clearing out, so I want to replant them for a bit of colour. Is it OK to start planting them up now? TIA.

I'm off to buy some tomorrow and will plant them.

Grand. Think I'll do them this week too then. Thank you.

Not at all. Now is the time. It was too early last month, what with the Beast from the East.

Yes, the Beast from the East was the final straw. I'm still weeping over my 2 big French lavenders.

Here in the north west, it's best not to plant out bedding plants until the last week end in May. I have known it to snow briefly, in June!
In other parts of the country it may well be safe to do it sooner.

It depends on your last frost dates, there are websites where you can find out your predicted last frost date. I'm in SE England but in a frost pocket and not safe till the end of May. We had a very late, hard frost last year.

DroopyLikeAnn · 09/05/2018 21:23

Last week of May is our predicted last frost, so I'm holding off until then

Justmuddlingalong · 09/05/2018 21:25

Thanks for that website info. I've just had a look and my area says the last week of April. We're right on the coast, but still a wee bit of frost on the grass some mornings. 🤔

Ah, should be ok then. My bird bath had a cm thick layer of ice on it one morning last week so I'm waiting.

Ooh good. I'll go for it this weekend. Happy planting, when it comes. 🌱
