Large border ideas (photo included)

We've got this border ready for planting but not really sure what to put in it. It is quite shady and we would really like to add colour but also low maintenance. I've looked at garden on a roll as they give a complete plan but of course very expensive. If anyone has some advice/ideas I'd be very grateful.

My notion? I have some thing similar but about 80ft under a waney lap fence in semi shade.

Ground covering plants would be essential. And maybe a camelia, colour fitted with smaller roses? Depends on your colour tastes.
Barking use to help weed control. Small hydrangea? Azelia? Also depends how much time you have to do maintenance effort?

Thank you so much for you help. I was thinking of a mixed variety of geraniums for the ground cover and your suggestion of a hydrangea sounds good. Looking at it this morning it is getting sun from the tree stump back to the old playhouse but will then be in the shade later. We've also got a narrow border on the back fence that needs plantingthat gets sun mostly in the morning. I'm going to the garden centre later so thinking of showing them the photo and seeing what they suggest. Colourwise I really like oranges/yellows but researching it seems pinks, blues, white, purples are more suited to the spot. Thanks again.

California lilac? We’ve got a bush one that likes sun but a ground cover one that loves it’s shady spot.

You can get heucheras or heucherellas in orange and yellow leaf colours. They're pretty low maintenance. I think it'll be really great to go with orange and yellow in a shady border!

I saw on Crocus that Trollius × cultorum 'Orange Princess' (globe flower) was suggested for partial shade.

Maybe take your time and look through lots of shady border plans for ideas (www.crocus.co.uk/search/_/search.shady-borders/). I like Crocus because of the drawings of how large the plants will be, and the care bit toward the end of each plant webpage is a good signal for how easy the plant is to maintain. You don't have to buy from them, and you could buy young plants instead of large specimens, though it'll take time for them to grow.

Sorry, last one -- a yellow barrenwort for ground cover:

Oh thank you! i'm having a look at crocus now, it's very informative. I love the yellows.

We have I think a california lilac on the opposite border which is very sunny but I thought it may not do so well in shade. Maybe i could split it and plant some on the other side.

Thank you all.
