I'm coming to the end of my first year in a new garden, and I still have some mysteries...
My googling skills are failing me when it comes to plant id, so I thought I'd turn to the wisdom of mumsnet- please pretty please can anyone enlighten me? There's three here, all growing in sunny (abandoned) borders.

I have lots of the first weed, I think it produces flowers (yellow or orange) at some point but for me it is a weed. The second looks like a ground cover I have with purple/blue flowers, maybe a periwinkle type. Not sure about the third

Knittedfairies · 04/05/2018 21:09

The first looks like a wild geum, and the second willow herb. I’ll have to have a think about the last one.

First looks a but ground elder, second willow berb. Third, horseeweed?

Horseweed ...

Oooh you lot are speedy, thank you!
I don't think the first is wild geum, it's sort of "juicier" than that, with thicker stems- although it might get more wirey as the flowers develop- I'll keep my eye on it- I have several clumps, lucky me.

Willow herb! That looks about right! Hmm I like the look of the flowers, but the garden is small so I should get rid, right? Although it must be said- for the next decade this poor garden is likely to be mostly flattened by footballs and dens- so maybe I should be glad of my sturdy willow herb!

Horseweed looks about right to me too- thank you! Hmm, I'm not sure even I can develop a taste for horseweed as an ornamental...

Thank you very much for the speedy IDs!

The first one is definitely herb bennet/wood avens aka wild geum. It has little insignificant yellow flowers.

Thank you!
The cinquefoil is everywhere, I am now an expert on pulling it up in armfuls... I actually don't dislike it (which is just as well considering), but it doesn't half take over! We also have a load of herb Robert, which I actively like, and some totally thuggish campanula which wants to conquer the world.

I ‘quite like’ herb robert, but be aware that it spreads rapidly because the seed pods get everywhere as they are apparently ‘explosive’ according to the RHS.
