Verbena Boriensis: how long before I decide it's dead?

Just that really. If last year's VBs are still just woody clumps, might they still yet come back?

I've been trying for 3 years to over winter mine. Including heavily mulching over it to protect from frosts. I never had any luck so far so have been buying a replacement every year 😕

Yes they will!
They grow like weeds in my garden, self seeding everywhere, particularly in gravel, but the woody stumps from last year are yet to burst into life.

Mines only just showing signs of shoots. They are sprouting at different rates depending on where they are in the garden. The shoots are guite dark at first, so easily missed.

The shoots on mine are only a cm or so high, we’re in Hampshire but everything is later this year.

mine are only just starting (city, southeast usually start quite early). I get about 3-4 years before they die but always self seed (everywhere) so pretty much immortal.

I thought mine had died and bought another one (£3 from Morrisons....bargain!). This week I dug up the old one to discover some very small new shoots just surfacing. I'm in the SW so you might have time yet.

(I did heap extra soil over it this winter for a modicum of protection)

Thanks all. Am in Scotland so a week or so behind England plant progress wise.
