Tall annuals to fill 'hole' in the hedge?

Had to cut down an old shrub, treated the stump but won't be able to dig it out yet. Stump-grinder access limited, so must live with it until roots loosen up/die.
Need suggestions for quick-growing, tall annuals that could cover the space meanwhile. Anything that doesn't need to much faff....
Was thinking of digitalis but never grown them before so don't know how demanding they are.
All suggestions/advice gratefully received!

Hollyhocks....they're gorgeous and tough too. Buy them in pots, ready to go in. They get tall pretty quickly.

What about some nasturtiums to be encouraged to climb over the stump, not tall but attractive and not too fussy about soil since the shrub has probably depleted much of it. If you had some in a decent sized pot they could go on top of the stump to grow down as well, I have done something similar by sticking a pot of them in the centre of a planter because I wanted some colour in the planter and couldn't think what to put there.

How about an obelisk or some tall bamboo canes with sweet peas or runner beans?

Foxgloves are biennial so younwont get flowers or height unless you buy them in pots.

Verbena bonarensis are tall and an added bonus is they attract butterflies

Marvellous, thank you all so much! Need to take a trip to the garden centre and see what looks best/biggest from your suggestions!
