Growing climbing plants up neighbour's fence - legal?

The fence between our garden and our neighbours is owned by the neighbour. It is the south-facing side of the garden so is the most obvious place to grow as much as possible. I planted climbers there last year and realise I need to properly support them this year by screwing in screws with eyes and twine. The neighbour is very pleasant but I wonder if it is on dodgy legal ground, ie if the climbers make any damage to the fence? Should I just grow something else or put standing supports rather than using the fence as a support just to avoid any possible conflict? They are just delicate plants like clematis and honeysuckle rather than heavy duty ones if that makes any difference.

Just ask them if they mind.

If you were my neighbour I'd be cool with it.

Thanks I hope he feels that way. I just don't want to reassure him that the plants will have no impact on the integrity of the fence, and that somehow they do have an impact. The fence is very sturdy, was only put up 18 months ago and has concrete posts instead of just wooden posts so I think it should cope with it. I think my DH would rather not put anything onto it but I think it should be OK and I'm a bit restricted if I can't attach anything to the fence.

You can get these weird stick on things to hold plants onto walls and fences.

I saw them once in one of those catologues you get which are full of weird shit you don't need.

Kind if like a suction cup on one side and then like a Lego hand on the other to hold the plant.

I did an amazon search for the sticky pod thingies I mentioned and now amazon are advertising weird gardening shit at me.

Metal archways and the like. Not really my thing...

But I did end up buying 3 multicoloured buddleja bushes which they also advertised.

I think you owe it to me to come round and help me plant the buggers...!

You will need permission, preferably in writing so there's no comeback, to attach anything to your neighbours fence.

I've no idea of the legalities sorry. But I wouldn't want my neighbour to do this against my fence as I paint my fences both sides with preserver every year to extend the life of the wood. Also, some types of climbers hold excessive water against the wood, leading it to rot faster, or have strong roots that can damage the fence.
