Climber for a shady area

I want a flowering climber to go up and over our shed. It will be in shade until it gets to the roof, then sunny.
Would a climbing rose or alpine clematis work?

Watching with interest as I need one over a fence which doesnt get sun either. Chap in Bunnings suggested a newish climbing hydrangea which is a possibility

I'm just about to buy climbing rose Madame Alfred Carriere which does really well in shade (north facing walls included).

Do you want something evergreen? Climbing hydrangea might be a better bet if so.

Or have a combination of evergreen/deciduous? This link lists some roses suitable for north facing walls. Some are bush/pot/patio roses so focus on the climbing varieties if you want one to cover a wall/fence Smile They recommend Dancing Queen (a pink bloom) in particular:

I used to have a clematis armandii which is evergreen but a builder snapped it at the base and it never recovered.

Thank you.
Clematis armandii it is. I have fond memories of my GPs one which covered half their house.
And there's a rambling rose on your link which would look stunning up our plane tree.
