Evergreen shrub recommendations please

Could someone please recommend evergreen shrubs for my front border. It’s the separation between the road and the garden but I don’t need anything too tall for privacy it’s more to show the boundary and look nice.

We had Hebes in there but in a recent cold snap deer ate them and I’m not sure they’ll come away again. We do have some plants that come away in summer like granny’s bonnets and drumstick primula but need something there full time. Maybe I should just replace the Hebes.

euonymous , Holly, berberis, cotoneaster, pyracantha spring to mind.

Euronymos and variegated holly will retain their leaves. Plant a rambler or climbing rose in the middle to weave between the other hedge plants. I think you will need make and female holly to make pretty winter berries for the birds.
Fire thorn was mentioned above and has beautiful blossom and berries but I don’t think it’s evergreen.

Ruscus aculeatus (butchers broom). Small Holly like leaves. Google it to see images. V healthy plant and resistant to nibbling creatures!

Choisya? Pieris? Skimmia? Fatsia if it's shady (might be too tall for your requirements) Smile

Choisya, Sarcococca, Skimmia, Viburnum davidii.
How much sun do you get?

gardenwoes · 26/03/2018 16:41

Thanks! Front is north facing but does get quite a bit of sun in the summer as it's only really overshadowed by our house and not others.

We had huge conifers in there but they were all misshapen and turned the soil to dust so nothing else grew so we pulled them up and now with all the bad winter weather its really wet!!

I was in Aldi and they had a big selection of evergreen shrubs for £1.79 each so I'll have a planted border next weekend since this weekend is due for snow again!!!
