Victims of the cold snap

Who's lost what in their gardens due to the cold weather?

I'm most upset about my clematis armandii (Appleblossom) which was going to flower for the first time this year. It has lost all its growing tips and I think all of its flower buds. Hopefully it will sprout again, but curses to the flower loss.

Other clematis have lost the green shoots that were bravely starting too. Some hellebore flowers have collapsed and the penstemon top growth is black.

Hoping for a little warm weather so they can have a go at recovering.

My Camellia looks very sad, but in fairness it wasn't happy before the snow!

My camellia. It was flowering and now it’s looking very sad. I took it into the conservatory to keep it safe, but I think I was too late.

Haven’t looked at the clematis yet.

Oh,and all the leaves on my epimedium have gone a horrid khaki/brown colour. :(

My Camellia looks sad but possibly has buds on still. DH’s loquat he planted from seed couldn’t take the weight of the snow and the main bough fell over anD had to be cut . It’s still alive and will regrow but he’s had it for over 20 years and was his only plant.

My Daphne, lovely scented winter flowers, that I've had for 5 years was almost uprooted by the weight of the frozen snow pulling it over. My fault for not checking and brushing the snow off every day.
I've put it back in postion and firmed the soil, hope it survives.
Was surprised to see the Bowles Mauve wallflower is still flowering despite the freezing weather and being completely covered in snow. Photo taken this morning.

Hellebores soon recover after the freeze, mine are all upstanding again! As for Epimediums, I cut back all foliage in late autumn, so that the new spring growth comes through unhindered. Most plants will recover, this is just a minor set-back.

FuzzyCustard · 06/03/2018 17:05

Most of the hellebores have lifted their heads again (only two flowers beyond redemption and had to be removed). I shall cut the epimedium down now and hopefully the top leaves will have protected the crown a bit (I do the same with penstemons).

That Bowles Mauve is looking fabulous!

My camellia in a pot started flowering whilst it was buried under the snow.
Most things seem to have come through remarkably unscathed, maybe because our back garden is west-facing and was sheltered from the east wind by the house. I think the fuschia in the front garden is a goner though.

One type of hebe is looking very sad - but I have lots of them so garden not looking great at all atm

Amazingly though so much is regrowing/coming, through its remarkable really after what they've been through!
