OMG my garden's full of birds!

It's raining, but the garden is full of birdsong!

There is a blackbird pair foraging under the trampoline, a grumpy robin in a shrub on one side keeps dive-bombing out then fleeing back, some other birds that I can't identify in another shrub on the other side, starlings grazing across the lawn, and, most exciting of all, three coal tits in a little potted olive tree right by the window! They keep flying out and perching on the brickwork where I can see them.

AIBU to be totally, bonkersly, besotted? Grin

I was busy being jealous of all you fieldfare spotters, and one just turned up out back!

Thank you Mrs but I should have mentioned, I have actually seen red squirrels at Dudley Zoo, but they don't count - I want to see wild ones! Grin

We saw red squirrels at Crosby, I was so excited! My first red squirrel nearly got run over as I left a hotel in Northumberland! It dashed out from behind the 'Caution! Red Squirrels' sign in front of the car!

Yay Bert!

I did as instructed and thawed the birdbath and created a dipping hole in the wildlife pond...was rewarded by lots of blackbirds taking a dip in both Shock

I normally only get a pair at a time! I put a tray of food on the ground for them too since the cat was safely tucked up indoors Grin Fresh snow buried the tray within about 20mins but I brushed it off and it didn't put them off Smile

Joining in as so excited.Looked out of the kitchen window yesterday and perched on the hawthorn hedge were two beautifully fluffed up birds I'd never seen before.Fieldfares!Had a good look through binoculars and rang a friend who's a big bird watcher and then confirmed by British Ornithology Trust video. So this morning along with the usual meal worms, sunflower hearts and some left over cooked potato put out a pile of grated apple. They returned, and then another turned up this afternoon ,and took over the bird table -chasing the poor regular blackbirds away and defending the food. Will treat myself to a lazy breakfast and sit nursing my coffee in the morning ,hoping they come back.I was also thrilled to see a beautiful bullfinch earlier in the year, until I realise they strip the buds off fruit trees and we barely had any plums ,apples or pears this year !

Today I’ve had 2 yellow hammers and goldfinches. Along with the usual crowd. I could watch them for hours.

This morning, a Redwing!

They are stunners!

LemonadeWithACherry · 04/03/2018 19:57

Most of our snow has gone today, and with it the fieldfares. Sad

Snugglepiggy · 05/03/2018 14:13

Same here Lemonade. It was lovely to see the fieldfares, and happy to think they've flown off after 2 days if non stop feasting. On the plus side least all our regulars.especially the blackbirds can get a look in with the food again!

Moving on from birds, to bees! The bumble bee queens have emerged en masse today. I've had to let 2 out of the bedroom window when they came in and buzzed like motorbikes trying to get out. We have some pussy willow or something similar in bloom and they were all over that like a Hells Angels gathering.

Spring is sprung!

I regularly have nuthatches and treecreepers in my garden, I love them! I also have occasional visits from wrens and long tailed tits, which I have a soft spot for as they're so sweet!
