Simple Border Filler

I'm a complete gardening novice with a toddler and baby so don't have a lot of time to spend out there.

Can anyone recommend some plants I could bung in that will fill my borders and look pretty for a good chunk of the spring/summer.

The garden is pretty sunny from midday onwards. The only plant that we have out there currently is a huge hydrangea that was here when we moved in.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Do you need to aim for is something very low maintenance and give you an all year round interest? Also things that will suppress the weeds and will grow and spread Year after year?

Wilko do some very cheap plants I would suggest a mixture of evergreens with interesting leaves and evergreens that flower. Don’t plant them too close together as they will spread. Toward the end of May, you can sow really easy pretty seeds, many of which will come back year after year. Also the time to put in Bedding plants. Those that come in little polystyrene trays.

So here is a list That I would choose.
Eunymous lots of varieties green/silver green/yellow no maintenance required unless you buy big ones and want to,shape them.
Heathers. Dead easy to grow, just give them a haircut after they have flowered.
Berberis, Hebe, lavender and holly will give year round interest.
Dwarf Azales.
For good leaf colour, Spirea, and Cornus especially Cornus Midwinter fire.
Ornamental grasses and lots of herbs will also give you colour and year colour.
Bergamot, yarrow, Angelica and fennel. Leave these to seed and you will get a great autumn display.

For easy seeds that can be thrown strait into the gaps, nigella, calendula , California poppies and nasturtium will give a long display.

That's a fantastic help Astrantia, thank you. I've noted all the names and your tips down so I can research a little. Thanks for reminding me about Wilkos too...totally forgot about their garden range. Thanks again
