Need some privacy fast! Fast growing trees?

Or any other suggestions?

Someone has unlawfully cut down trees bordering my garden and now every Tom Dick and Harry can see into my house and garden!

I used to enjoy a lovely view of woodland which shielded my House and garden from a busy road. Yesterday some contractors turned up and chopped them all down . It's so sad the birds and squirrels and other wildlife lived there.

Now everyone on the bus can see into my living room 😟

I thought it was owned by the council as it's a fairly small strip of land next to a busy road but it turns out it's owned by a private developer who wants to build student accommodation on it. I contacted the council and they said he does own it but they own the topsoil if that makes sense as it's adopted land and that he should not have cut down the trees without their permission... but he's already done it😩

I don't think there is much I can do now about the trees as they have already gone and will take 10 years to grow back😟but what can I do to minimise the exposure. I have a small fence was thinking about putting trellis on top. My garden is fairly small but I could plant some things. Are there any fast growing trees? What about artificial hedges? Don't want everyone looking in on us having our Xmas dinner!

Well perhaps the council will force the developer to replace the trees - maybe speak to the person at the council again.

This sort of thing give me the rage - I noticed only today that a developer near here has taken out a mature hedgerow and chopped down a whole line of mature horse chestnut trees, probably about 200 years old.

Thanks Yamadori

Yes i am furious. The developer apparently has not a cats chance in hell of getting planning permission for the development and totally took advantage of the time of year and residents and council people being away . The fact that he shouldn't have done what he has done and it's classed as criminal damage is good but its too late for me now. Poor trees and wildlife 😟

If your looking for something evergreen, Laurel, although strictly a shrub, grows quite quickly and is easily pruned to restrict the width.
It depends how high you want the trees to be. I have Lauels at least 12 ft high.

Second vote for laurels- evergreen and grow tall and dence

Great thanks will do some research on laurels

Currently fitting some bamboo screening for immediate privacy!

Bamboo screening worked but need some greenery now longer term. What will grow tall quickly and look nice. I have a patio on the side that I'm trying to screen so will need to be stuff in pots initially

I recommend you contact Barcham trees. They have a really informative website which gives you details about each tree.

If you have the budget then Coppiced trees might be the answer. I woukd email them with your problem. They are so helpful and friendly.

Live bamboo in pots, keep it wet and it will grow fast!

Western Red Cedar aka Thuja plicata. Grows as fast as leylandii, provides the same dense screen, smells nicer and most importantly when you have forgotten about it for a few years and want to reduce it WON'T GO BROWN AND DIE AND LOOK HORRIBLE!!

Or laurel as per previous post.
