Can I take forsythia cuttings just now or do I have to wait till autumn?

Is there a general rule for taking cuttings - time, process etc. I find it really confusing. I'd love some forsythia in my garden and both neighbours have it.

Can I take cuttings now or do I have to wait till it is no longer in flower? If I can take cuttings what do I do with them? Bung them in a pot/ground or what?

Many thanks.

It is SO EASY
Cut some now, (say about 5 bits about 4 inches tall) stick them evenly around the edges of a pot with some compost and a bit of sharp sand, water regularly and they will root

you'll have 5 plants next year

btw it isn't so easy with everything, but that works with forsythia. and box. and other things that root really easily

forsythia roots really easily.

Have a go. You could even just stick some in the ground and see if it takes.

Thanks very much. Will get stuck into this today. I'm going to do the pot thing and I'll also bung some in the ground (did this last year with something else from my neighbour and it worked).
