I need something I can put in a medium sized container which will look good quickly. It will be going in a very sunny dry spot(ie, I'm not good at watering!) Preferably something that's not spiky cos it needs to contrast with the cordyline that's already there. Tell me what has worked well for you!
thanks

lavender, cistus, some of the shrubby salvias, rosemary and other Mediterranean herbs eg thyme, hebe, agapanthus, some of the grasses (you will have to take advice from the nursery, they vary a lot and some like to be damp).

My 'hot'n'dry' flowerbed out the front of the house, rarely gets watered and the following have survived for a couple of years now:-
butterfly lavender, osteospurnum, cone flower (ecineacia? the pink one), hebe.

I've gone and bought one of those gorgeous lilies with the elegant white flowers.....

YES I KNOW they like to be soggy. i think I've taken on a challnge. I've put a plastic bag over the drainage holes and water retaining gel in the compost. I'll just ahve to be responsible and water it a lot.

When it dies, I'll try one of your tips. Hebe especially I think would look lovely. Thanks both - I might try it anyway.
