Planting seeds from fresh fruit and veg

Has anyone planted seeds from tomatoes, peppers or anything else they have bought as fresh from the supermarket?
Also can you save seeds for later in the year? Not sure how to go about drying / storing

Yes.

Tomatoes, most that you will get from supermarkets are F1 hybrids so the tomatoes you get are not likely to be the same as the one you took the seed from. Not to say that the resulting tomatoes won't be nice.

Peppers, yes but same applies.

Chillis, are very good to save seeds from as they are less likely to be hybrids, and are likely to have been grown one variety together so less likely to have cross pollinated.

To be honest if you want decent cheap seeds, get involved in a seed swap and learn how to save seeds properly, Garden Organic's Heritage Seed Library have good seed saving instructions.

Every year I plant the seeds of the teeny plum tomatoes from Lidl and get lovely results, slightly different sometimes but always tasty.
I squeeze the seeds out onto tissue, spread out and allow to dry, then plant the entire tissue when I'm ready.

I love the Lidl plum tomatoes so they are one I will try.
Need to investigate seed swap I haven't heard of that before
