What to plant

What would be possible to be planted out in September/October that won't get killed off by the cold weather?

Looking at getting an allotment and really don't want to have it empty for months and months.

I've got asparagus in my garden that I can transfer over but I think that's the only thing I could move.

Last year I took box and laurel cuttings and planted them in the veg. garden and they did well. This year I'm going to try hydrangea and fuschia cuttings. Swede and chard might still grow from seed as well.

well, if its an allotment, and its ready to have something planted out ( though they rarely are) then there is still time to plant overwinter cauliflowers, spring cabbage , and if you can find some young plants , then possibly leeks too. I also overwinter shallots, onions and garlic .
You can come and have a look in at our allotment thread too if you fancy, lots of help on there

Thank you. Some are ready to use straight away and some need deforsesting first from a peak we got from a nice man who let us in and pointed out some of the empty ones. Going for a proper look and to pick one tomorrow.

The plots are good sizes and you get free water/horse manure/chippings which is handy.
