Pruning Lavender

Hello, I have some lavender bushes in my garden (moved in a year ago) and they seem a little woody and leggy. Does anyone know if it is okay to prune them now (in Southern England)?

well i've just done my rosemary berniebear. I don't really know if it's advisable, tbh, i'd say make sure it's just soft wood you prune.

Was pondering over my rosemary too badelaide, it just seems so cruel somehow to be pruning the nice new growth on my lavender. Yep, I am soft - way to soft! hand me the shears........

I think now is fine to prune lavendar. You should just make sure you don't prune into old wood.

So just the tender new growth then.....???

I'd wait until after it has flowered this year. It won't harm if you prune the tender new growth, but you might well lose the chance of any flowers this year, IMO.

If it really leggy it might be a good idea to take some cuttings. If they take you could then dig it up next year and replace with a new one.

light pruning now should be fine tbh. A month ago would have been better.

then harvest any flowers in autumn.

Thank you all for your kind replies, I will prune the older bushes (well they seem to be) now, and leave the younger ones. It just seems so callous somehow but if it saves them then am happy to go with it. Will let you know what happens!
