Is there a weed killer I can buy that actually works?

I've bought them all. Nothing works.
Within a few months the weeds are back. I only buy the mainstream stuff that you get in B&Q / Homebase etc.

Please. What do you advise?
Any home remedies? Anything I can buy online?

Glyphosate will kill anything really. It goes to the roots. You find it in Roundup, just check the label to see it says glyphosate as an ingredient.

Have you got lots of open spaces? Nature hates a vacuum so will fill it with weeds. Best remedy is to fill with plants you want and mulch around them.

What sort of weeds and where are they growing?

surferjet · 14/08/2017 20:49

Thank you pameladoove

Glyphosate. There are some that are meant to keep paths weed free.
What sort of weeds are they? Some weeds are difficult to eradicate and will take many attempts to get rid of them.

Resolva worked just fine at killing the weeds in my garden.

I wouldn't really have expected a weedkiller to work for months, but interested to see what others say. I agree the ones I use seem to weaken but not kill.

Clinic ace. It's like agent orange.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/08/2017 07:37

We use Round up.

Assuming all the weeds died when you last weedkillered? Those look like they probably just grew from seeds. So keep killing them regularly before they seed each time. And if you can remove any other weedy patches of dandelions nearby that might be producing all the seeds. I tend to accept that dandelions just come back regularly, and the kids enjoy the seed heads so they're not all bad!

I agree.

Those look like dandelions to me. You'll just need to weed them. Watch out for tap roots, otherwise plant things there - as in pp nature abhors a vacuum.
A hoe is quite useful for weeding, but for tap roots you'll need a thin knife or sharp trowel.

Glyphosate will need to be reapplied every few months . It is a non residual translocated (absorbed through leaves) herbicide. A residual herbicide remains in the ground and whilst weeds won't grow neither will anything else. Only option is repeated applications of a non residual and weeding. Residual herbicides are not available for domestic use . You would only get them from a specialist supplier who should check your accreditations. P.s. I work for a commercial vegetation management company

Polter · 15/08/2017 11:57

You need to dig them out, plant up the border and use a thick layer of mulch, or put a membrane down and use gravel. Roundup will only kill plants in leaf, it won't stop new weeds growing.

MikeUniformMike · 15/08/2017 12:52

I would not use glyphosate as the weeds are not too bad compared with ground elder, JK, GH etc. Your best bet is to cover the area with bark or gravel, or to sow bedding plants or grass over it.
You could try pathclear type weedkiller but it seems excessive. See the previous post by Polter.
