How Can I help these two Plants?

The first picture is a Clementis Armandi. About 5 or 6 weeks ago it stopped growing, leaves near the top went brown.....also the water in the big saucer (not sure the name of it) below the pot never seems to drain....constantly the same stagnant water. There is an identical one in the same conditions which continued to thrive so not sure what went wrong. What can I do - repot it? Prune it? I water it most days and every day if warm. Only bought it in March and it started out really well.

The other pictures are of a Mountain Fetterbush Pieris Japonica. I love this plant but one side of it has now got dying leaves. Tis was the side facing the sun so I turned it round a couple of weeks ago but not much difference. Again - only bought in March and it was doing really well. About 2 months ago I bought some miracle gro ericaceous feed because I know it likes acid soil...i Just sprinkled about 50 grams total I think over 6 or 7 weeks just on the top of the soil and watered.

Could the feed be the problem - does it need more or less? I water most days....maybe I water too much? Any advice, love the colours of the leaves so want it to do well.

For both the Pieris and Clementis should I prune them before Autumn/Winter?

Thanks

The growing conditions for your clematis are not great. I would repot it in a slightly larger pot, using ericaceous compost. Stand the pot on bricks, pot stand or something similar so that the water drains from it, they do not like standing in damp. Clematis like their heads in the sun, but roots in the shade, so I put stones on the surface of the pot to protect the roots from sun.
They also do not like excessive feeding, lack of nutrients makes them flower for survival.
I'd just cut off the dead bits and new growth will follow.
The Pieris looks like it's been exposed to too much sun. They do like a little shade and if grown in a pot, must be well watered, especially a young plant. Pruning off the dead part will be ok. But do water well. Pieris are now putting on new growth that will flower next spring. They usually don't need any pruning, unless they have grown too big for the space they are in. Don't prune the Clematis until after flowering, next year. Apart from cutting out the dead bits!

Try watering less often. If you soak the pot twice a week, it might suit the clematis & the pieris better than drizzling them every day. They do both need to drain as pp said. If the saucer has stagnant water in it then the roots are basically sitting in a marsh, and they won't like that.

Are you watering your acid living pieris with alkaline tap water?

Also, the idea of the saucer is to hold the water in hot weather, you need to tip out the excess in wet weather.

Thanks all I shall do what jt05 suggests and water less. yes been using tap water to feed them.
