I have a squiggly pathway with a few old stepping stones dotted about and last year I planted camomile to grow inbetween as a feature.
Some of the plants are OK and have joined up nicely but on one particular side of the pathway the plants have dried up and look dead in the middle. However, at the end of the tuberous shoots that grew last year we have small healthy green rosettes of foilage growing which are actually 'taking' and rooting in the soil.
Is this normal or should I cut my losses and either choose different plants or replace with new camomile plants.
It's odd because a lot of the plants are OK but on one side of the pathway they have suffered. Could ants be the culprit ? I think there may be nest nearby as we get the fine earth appear on top of the grass and soil - and bloody ants !
Our soil is quite heavily clay in some places but underneath the pathway is clay and gravel.
We also have some thyme dotted about and this is growing well.
