I dont have a big enough garden for a vegetable patch. Is there any veg that grows well in pots?

Also, we have a patch of ground that doesnt get any light and nothing seems to grow there. Anyone know anything that might grow there?

plants need light. try a garden ornament in a really shady spot, something shiny could be nice.

tomatoes, strawberrys and cut and come again salad do well in pots or window boxes. Also herbs. But they all need sunshine.

I don't know, being a vegetable growing virgin, but I have just ordered some vegetable plants from suttons which can be grown in pots, and tumbling toms which I will put into hanging baskets. Have a look on the suttons website, I have ordered a collection which they called 'patio' something or other. It comprises of the tomatoes, white aubergines, peppers, cucumber (I think) and something else.

Onion sets would grow almost anywhere, and demand no talent. You get nice fresh green onions in a few weeks

Suttons do lots of patio pots/seeds (I found them hard to find on website, but easy in the catalogue) - you can get a freestanding raised bed that goes on the patio too - I'm going to try beans & peas in one this year . Herbs, strawberries, tomatoes are all good start points... Carrots are meant to be better in pots because you don't get carrot root fly. You can do potatoes in big buckets/bins too...
Growing stuff with no light is tricky - is there even dabbled light?? Ivy; begonias (I think); ferns?

I think i will have to put something ornamental in the shaded part.

I like the idea of raised beds and big bins for my patio. Do you have to cover them or are they fine without?
