Pot plants for shady area by front door

As the title says really :)

I have 2 small and 1 medium size pot by the front door but nothing I have tried growing there has ever done well.

It gets an hour or two of sun first thing but is in shade for the rest of day.

It isn't deep dark shade IYSWIM, it just doesn't get any direct sun.

TIA from a rubbish gardener :)

Oh following as was about to start a similar thread. I would love something with colour and/or scent but I don't fancy hundreds of insects/bees coming through the front door either. I'm asking for too much I think!

Ferns are fine with shade

I've got a Fatsia in a pot in an area that doesn't really get any sun. It loves the shade and has tripled in size since I got it. I never remember to water it either, so it must be happy. It's just green, no flowers, but the leaves look nice.

Begonias like shade if you want some quick colour this summer/ autumn (they're annuals so will die back) while you decide long-term.

Homebase etc have quite a selection usually at this time of year.

Classic box (Bucks) will do the job

Hydrangeas do all right with just a bit of morning sun. I have a wall that faces NNE, so it gets a couple of hours in summer mornings like yours, & I have a hydrangea in a pot & a couple of small hanging baskets (pre-planted from Aldi - pics attached. Petunia, verbena, lobelia, Busy Lizzie plus a couple of other things)

It is sheltered though from the S & W which probably makes a difference. Could you plant your pots up & keep them somewhere a bit sheltered to get established first?

Tiarella is lovely in shade. Cut it back after it's finished flowering in the spring and you'll get lots of new leaves in mounds, they would look great in pots.
Don't let them dry out though.

Geraniums do ok in most places, lots of different colours available.

Quite a lot of fuchsias like shady areas and would be ok in a pot

Heucheras come in many colours and are happy in shade (they are 'cousins' of tiarellas). They also have nice dainty flowers bobbing out the top.

You can also get trailing varieties ("Redstone Falls" etc) so they could drape themselves over the pot sides.
