Hi, I do have a garden, but would like to put some plants in pots outside my house. So they would all have to be in pots.

I think I might be too late to start from seeds, what do you recommend? I would like to grow some herbs too. Some plants would be outside all year as I could only have very small flowerpots indoors (live in a flat).

Any suggestions? Thanks

How much light does the area get? That will make a big difference in what you can grow. Also, are you looking for plants that come back year after year (perennial) , or are you happy to plant the pots up with new plants every year (annual)

It probably is too late to start things from seed, but there are some plants that are easy to get hold off that you could grow now.

Hardy geraniums are nice and should come back every year. Geranium Rozanne, which you can get from most garden centres as well as online, flowers between June and the first frost.

Cosmos (an annual) does well in pots and is very easy to grow from seed earlier in the year. That also flowers until the first frost, but likes to be in the sun.

If you're looking for something bigger, some roses do well in a big pot, but also need a fair amount of sun There are a lot of options really, but it would help to know how much sun you get.

You could still get some annuals to put in now while you research and decide what permanent planting you want.
You could mix something like a Hebe, which has a good structural shape with some annuals such as Lobelia around the edge of the pot.

Hi, thank you for your replies! I meant I do not have a garden. The space I have to put plants should be big enough to get at least 12 big pots in a row. I didn't think of rose, that would be lovely. I guess I could have both perennials and annuals. Will google hebe, I like lobelias. I also want lavender, how do I get it? I guessed it was too late to start from seeds 😊

Currently in my courtyard I have over 60 pots! According to my DH who has counted them! (Sad or what! )
Anyway, I grow all sorts of things in them, in fact anything that could go in a garden.
Lavender is easily bought in a garden centre and some places will sell small plants in packs of 4 or 6. They like free draining soil and a sunny position.

You could have hydrangea in pots (water regularly) which would be lovely all summer. The small Lavatera would be lovely too. A hardy fuschia?

Thank you all for your suggestions, I got two hydrangea and two lavender plants. I am now looking for a small tree(ish) plant I can put in the big 55cm pot.

Any suggestions?

How about a bay tree or boxwood tree? Disclaimer :I am not green fingered but have a bit of an obsession with these at the moment.

I thought of a bay tree too Happy I would also like roses Smile
