Warm wall but in containers?

I've got a brick wall running the length of my driveway which gets the Sun most of the day. I'd love to grow some things up and along it, but the tarmac driveway meets the wall so it would need containers rather than planting in the ground. Any ideas?

How big can the containers be? Are you purely after ornamental plants, or something that you can also eat?

It sounds the perfect spot for several things if you can plant in large enough containers. If the drive is not wide you would have to use tall thin planters. Fruit, such as figs, espalier apples, cherries etc, would do well. Climbers such as Jasmine ( both winter and summer) and climbing roses.

Yes, can do big containers. Figs sound good. I'm surprised apples could be done in pots (plums?, apricots?). I thought roses needed big deep areas for roots.

I would be tempted to go slightly exotic - apricots would love a hot wall and being in a container you could move them if very cold weather was predicted. I'd add to that peach, kiwi fruit and of course sweet grapes.
All of these are projects for next year, maybe time to start investigating varieties and seem they in action this summer at nurseries to get an idea of what to expect?

Blueberries work well in large containers, because you can control the soil more- they like it acidic. Many of the varieties look lovely in the autumn/winter too, red/pink leaves and, when they fall off, striking red branches.
