Chili growing taller and taller

I was given a chili plant in April, I don't know exactly which variety it is.
Anyway he seems to be growing ok, I keep it on the windowsill, feed it a tiny bit of tomato food now and then and water it obv.
My question is will it stop growing taller by itself or do I need to nip out the tip or something?
I am the worst gardener ever btw.

It will be fine. Have you got chillis on it yet?

hugoagogo · 25/06/2017 19:09

Nope, it is very tall and thin.
Do they fruit the first year?
I think I might need a book...

Yes they do. have you had any flowers on it yet?

Can you post a photo? Are you sure it is a chilli?

hugoagogo · 26/06/2017 08:15

It says it's a chilli, I think it came from a local charity stall or something.
Could I be harbouring an imposter?
Sorry about the pic; I am a terrible photographer too.Blush

Wow, hats really tall. Could it be due to lack of light?

ElleDubloo · 26/06/2017 08:26

For comparison, these are my chilli plants, grown outside in the garden.

I always pinch the top out to get a bush

AlternativeTentacle · 26/06/2017 08:33

Yes that is lack of light!

Count up the blinds and get to number 8. On the chilli plant, there are two leaves to the side. Cut the stem off above those two leaves. Then put it in the brightest place in the house. It might need repotting as well, as I suspect it is in a small pot.

That is the brightest place in the house Sad
most of our windowsills are too narrow for a pot really and full of cats

Could you put it outside on a sunny patio table, if you're in a warm part of the country?

hugoagogo · 26/06/2017 10:25

I have a shady, slug infested garden in Yorkshire, maybe I should give up.

Ah, I see. I haven't had much success growing them indoors. Last year they got to a good size but were swarming with aphids so I got rid of them before they fruited. This year they once again got aphids, so I planted them out where the ladybirds had a chance of getting to them.
