Hi. I'm wanting bushes that last all year. Do not need much looking after but that will look nice / exotic. Any ideas please x

Escallonia, comes in a large leafed evergreen variety, with pink flowers at this time of year. Sorry I don't know the variety name as it was in the garden when I got here. RHS website will be a help.

I've been planting similar things this year. I am a complete beginner, but I will try and help! They were all young shrubs, but have started to fill out. This is what I have found to be good evergreens:

Euonymous - there are some lovely variegated varieties, they are quick growing and just need to be lopped when they reach the desired height. I really like Silver Queen, but there are so many varieties
Photionia (red robin) - again, really easy to look after. I like Louise, which is variegated and tinged with pink
Fatsia japonica
Hidcote is one of the larger varieties of lavender but may not give height if that's what you want
Buxus
Pittosporum - lots of varieties. I like Elizabeth as that is variegated and tinged with pink, but I have a more standard one too (I cannot remember the variety sorry) and they don't need special looking after

Flowering evergreens:
Ceanothus - most varieties are evergreen. Small veiny leaf, beautiful blue flowers in SApring. They bush really easily
Viburnum
Cherry laurel - quick growing
Choisya - white flowers in spring
Escallonia - most grow very tall, but Pink Elle is the one I have, and it is much shorter
Evergreen azalea and rhododendron
Camellias are evergreen, will need feeding with ericaceous feed

St Johns Wort (hypericum) is evergreen isn't it? And has golden flowers all summer.

Buxus is a bit problematic now isn't it? There's some disease about isn't there?

Depends how big you are looking for? Here are some more suggestions:

Cistus (you can get variegated and they have white flowers)
Phlomis
Phormium (if you have a large space)
Garrya (good for shade)
Salix lanata

Small plants
Brunnera
Bergenia
Hellebores
Stachys lanata
