Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help please. To the rear and side of my house is a yard, there is a public path running all up this area. I have a stone wall and railings but would like to plant something that will grow onto the railings offering us privacy. It would have to be in planters due as it's all stone. Any ideas what any fool could grow? I'm the opposite of green fingered.
Thanks in advance any help appreciated x

Where I live in London I've seen this
www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=302 grown a lot over fences etc .

I'm no gardener but my friend who is, suggested it to me so I think it probably is easy to grow .

I'm sure there will be more suggestions from the wise people here .

You could try a Russian vine, sometimes called 'mile in a minute' as it's a bit of a thug
Or Home Bargains recently had plastic ivy on a roll 3m x 1m for around £30. It looked quite convincing and would mean you don't need pots and would work all year around

It's quite cold where we are (NW) so will ask at Garden Centre re the one you mentioned sunnyhills
My mum gifted me some of the Hb stuff but I really dislike it, it's up around part of the area now as a temp measure
Are garden centres the best place to purchase this kind of thing or are there other cheaper alternatives?

I would get ideas from the garden centre but purchase from a market stall or roadside sellers. My sister has just given me a cup and saucer vine which doing very well and covering an oil tank.

Some honeysuckle too is evergreen and grows in pots. You could do a mixture perhaps of evergreen clematis, honeysuckle and jasmine - lovely! I grow all this stuff in Scotland so you'd be fine. Aldi and Lidl sell cheap plants, often climbers. Don't be scared to try stuff - if it doesn't work, you can always just replace it later :), and most of all, remember to keep the pots watered.
