How about a tallish white statue tucked in amongst all the green with some pretty flowers in pots a bit further out to catch the light?
You say it's a corner of the garden, so you could have the pots kind of 'fencing off' the corner a bit to give an illusion of privacy.

Instead of flowers you could have lollipop trees in pots. Their height is generally at your eyeline when sitting down, so could cut off an ugly view a bit or help with privacy. Depending on your garden, you could have solar fairy lights on them. Maybe a little path to the bench?

Hydrangea by the looks of it

Thanks for the suggestions. How do I keep the ivy and weeds at bay? Shall I get some of that wed control matting? And then put something on top of it?

I just ( ha ha "just" ) keep pulling the ivy up and cutting it back .It's not on my land .Weed control matting won't affect it I think .It might subdue less well rooted weeds .

But you might need to think about leaving access to get at the ivy and not plant right up to it's growth .IYSWIM .

Thank you Tiba ,I must have a look at different hydrangea varieties .

I think I'd probably try and work a bit with what you have and make it as woodlandy as possible, plant a couple of ferns and grow something like sweet woodruff as ground cover. You would have to clear it a little bit first. If you do it towards the end of September then you could plant lots of little woodland bulbs like scilla and perhaps hardy cyclamen etc... so you'd get interest in early spring before the ferns and woodruff spring into action.

What's the scruffy looking thing on the right hand side?

It's an apple tree or do you mean the shed?

We went for the easy option, a "woodland area" so spring plants and wood chip.

I mean the apple tree. I think I'd tidy him up as well :)
