Hello all, I was wondering if you can help ID two plants/weeds in our (new-to-us) garden please? Thank you!

The last one is teasel ( I think)

Mumofazoo · 03/06/2017 18:56

The first I think is a poppy.

SasBel · 03/06/2017 18:58

Oriental poppy and teasel. Probably 🙂

Aducknotallama · 03/06/2017 19:05

The first one is a type of poppy

whitehandledkitchenknife · 04/06/2017 08:46

Definitely poppy - most likely with mauve flowers. Second is teasel. Both self seed like crazy.

Attie17 · 04/06/2017 17:58

thanks all for your excellent knowledge!

The self-seeding would explain some of the teasel positioning. There are some at the back of a very deep flower bed, where they look nice. But some are at the front of the bed too where I think they just look far too mall - makes sense that perhaps they weren't meant to be there.

Might you all be able to help with another plant please? It's rather huge and looks on the verge of flowering. Any idea what it might be?

Looks like Hollyhock!

whitehandledkitchenknife · 04/06/2017 23:46

It's hollyhock, as Nan says. Another self seeder?

Attie17 · 10/06/2017 17:15

Thank you both. No flowers yet but it is absolutely huge.

Yes,hollyhock. You will need to push a steak into the ground and tie it in, or it will collapse under it's own weight.

JeNeSuisPasVotreMiel · 17/06/2017 08:42

Or try pushing a stake into the ground, steaks tend to be a bit floppy unless they are very well done... Grin
