Growing salad potatoes in bags

I have two bags of Charlottes, they seem to be doing OK and are just about to form flowers. I understand once the flowers are out, I can harvest but as I live alone I'm wondering how long I can leave one of the bags? Assuming there is a reasonable crop in bag one, can I leave bag two for a week or so? I've never grown spuds in bags before.

I was told you can leave them in the ground until Christmas if you cut off the leaves. We grew some in bags last year and due to laziness we didn't get around to emptying one of the bags until last month, and we discovered loads of lovely potatoes in there!

OK, well the first bag is nearly ready to be emptied, knowing my luck it's probably got one, deformed, spud in it!

I've never done well with spuds in bags. Lots of effort watering, and compost, not many potatoes. Hope you've done better!

I'd leave them until the bottom half of the bag feels full though, so they've bulked up a bit. This feels a bit early to me. But I'm no expert...

picklemepopcorn These are salad spuds, so I don't think they'll get that big. Flower buds are there, so probably ready in a week. They better be, as I plan to put a pumpkin plant into the 1st bag!
