It's growing in our garden and we've no idea what it is. Don't even know if it's a weed or actually a plant! Seems it's about to flower. It's quite large really,

Those are seed heads in your last photo op, not flower buds I'm afraid.

Leave the heads until they go brown and the holes open, the seeds won't be ready before then

When you day wooded, do you mean you want to plant then among trees? They need full sun, won't thrive in any shade.

Yes, wait until the seed inside has dried and the seed pod rattles when you shake it. You'll get hundreds of seeds in every pod.
