Moving hostas & plant ID

I put my young hostas in a container last year to keep them from being eaten by slugs. They've done very well in container and are coming back now. I really want to put them in ground in a shady spot - would it be ok to move them now? Or will they still be too attractive to slugs as slightly older plants?

Went for a walk and saw these (2nd pic) in a garden - I love the flowers - what plant is this?

Second pic is an Oriental poppy, as for moving the Hosta, probably fine to do it now, but you'd need to find a way to prevent slug damage.

Thanks - I thought perhaps older plants weren't as attractive to slugs. Any suggestions of companion planting which may deter them (without resorting to pellets)?

I'd suggest nematodes, plus nightly torchlit slug hunts. they seem to be working at keeping the slugs down in my garden.

If wholes in your hostas aggravate you I would just get new ones. Some varieties are so tasty to them it's like having an open bar sign, attracting them from far and age does not make the hostas less attractive. Many varieties are not touched at all by slugs, so why make your life difficult?

Hostas will ALWAYS be an invitation to slugs I'm afraid!

I would suggest moving them into much larger pots first, to get them bigger, and taking all the slug precautions you can. Then, eventually plant them out. You may find once they are larger you can divide the roots, and end up with several of each.

Qwebec - I didn't know some varieties are less prone to slug damage; would be useful to know which they are, as all we have ever grown have been targeted!

ferguson2 here is a list of slug resistant hostas. All the ones I have that are one this list are untouched by them, even on high level infestation years.
The main point is to look for hostas with thick leaves.
