I would like to buy some plants for the house, I'm not green fingered, hence the thread, any ideas?

TIA

Hi Roskva, sorry I missed you yesterday, how did it go with the baby massage class? I'm probably not going to get to the garden centre this week, as we have a long weekend coming up here in Ireland, St Patrick's day etc so will do it next week.

Well, dd took off on a social round, and tried stealing other babies' toys, or rather in her own little way tried to swap, but it didn't go down too well. One little lad didn't seem to mind her gumming the other end of his toy, and his mum was fine about it!

Our internet connection has been playing up, so have not been able to connect until now.

Mhamai · 15/03/2007 20:41

Hi Roskva, ah bless, baby Roskva sounds a darling. Well I'm just trying to brace myself for St Patricks day, it will be the first time for ds to see the parade live as I was reluctant to bring him before as he was never one for big crowds but I imagine he's hardy enough for it now.

Oh I've just realised Sunday will be your first Mothers day! hope you get pampered. I'm a single mum but I love the presents dd gets for me each year as they are always so thoughtful. If I'm not chatting with you beforehand, have a lovely day on Sunday.

Hi Mhamai. Small person is sat on my lap trying to get the keyboard! The St Patrick's day parade sounds brilliant - where are celebrating? I've been dropping unsbtle hints to dh that I am now a mum, but I have to say, I don't have huge hopes. If the weather is nice I'll take dd to the beach. Hope you have a lovely day, too. It must be hard being on your own with a little one.

Mhamai · 16/03/2007 10:40

Hi Roskva, subtle hints just won't do, you need to plaster post its all over the house! I'm from Dublin Roskva so will be celebrating here in the capital. I'll be honest with regard to rearing ds it can often seem hard as I'm also studying to do a degree but my dd is like a second mum to him, truth be told he is fussed over no end, all dd's friends dote on him. He's a little charmer! Ooh going to the beach sounds lovely, where are you from yourself?

Hi Mhamai, we're almost the other side of the water from you in north Pembrokeshire. My dad's moving to Dublin in the summer for his work! You're St Patrick's day celebrations must be fantastic. How old are your dd and ds? Baby Roskva is 7 months.

Mhamai · 16/03/2007 18:12

Hi Roskva, yes I'm really looking forward to tomorrow! Wow your dad's coming to Dublin, hope he gets lots of cead mile failtes, that's a thousand welcomes, a famous Irish expression. My dd is 20 and my ds is 6. I have more financial funds than I thought so I might take a trip down to the garden centre on Sunday to treat myself and will keep an eye out for my Roskva orchid. Oh my ds bought home from school a page with his handprint and a beautiful poem on it. The poem is. You have probably heard it but just in case.

Sometimes you get discouraged
Because I am so small
And always leave my fingerprints
On furniture and walls.

But all the time I'm growing
I'll be all grown up one day
And all these tiny handprints
Will surely fade away.

So heres my little handprint
Just so you'll recall
Exactly how my hand looked
When I was very small.

Well I'm not overstaing this but I've been emotional all afternoon, he firmly has me wrapped around his finger, ooh for forever!

Brought even.

Roskvawantingsomesunshine · 16/03/2007 18:44

That's a gorgeous poem, Mhamai, I'm not surprised you're emotional. I'll think of it when dd leaves carrotty hand prints all over everything - the new game is little fingers go in mouth immediately after food, then she wipes fingers on my sleeve.

You must think I'm a real dipstick, btw, cos you told me the ages of your two before. My brain has evaporated at the moment - it probably went down the drain with the water I had to empty manually from the washing machine. So my finances are now rather stuffed: the new washing machine is probably my mother's day pressie!

What subject is your degree? I'm playing around 'studying' with the OU, doing a web design course at the moment, really to try to stem the flow of braincells, but I am getting well behind. I can't get my cascading style sheet to work!!

Mhamai · 16/03/2007 19:08

Your so not a dipstick Roskva, it's called being a mum! I couldn't read anything heavier than magazines for a year after ds was born, I just couldn't concentrate.

I'm training to be a psychotherapist, my concentration is not much better now, I'm way late with two essays for college but just have complete writers block.

Sorry to hear about your washing machine and noooooooo w machine is household essential, not a M day treat, you must bring that point home forceably [sp?] Ps lol what is a cascadinng style sheet when it's at home?

It's a page of code that you can use to make the layout/colours etc on all the pages of a website consistent, so you don't have to type it for every page and can change it relatively easily (in theory!). Only mine doesn't do either, at the moment, and I've gone boggle-eyed looking for my mistakes. I've got an assignment to do by next Tuesday, and I'm a whole section behind. Psychotherapy sounds fascinating but very demanding.

Mhamai · 16/03/2007 19:21

Yes and yes to psychotherapy but lord I take my hat off to you re the web design! It sounds fascinating and demanding too! Well I'm getting my bum off MN for a bit, have spent way too much time here today. Have a lovely weekend and I'll post to let you know how I get on with my plant mission!

Happy St Patrick's Day, Mhamai. Have fun at the celebrations.

I'm supposed to be doing my coursework. I'm on here instead!

Mhamai · 17/03/2007 15:39

Oh Roskva, sorry I didn't see your post earlier, I was busy faffing about on other threads! Well I didn't go to the parade in the end as ds didn't want to go. and tbh the weather here hasn't been too kind, rain etc. So tomorrow after the garden centre, I'm going to take him to the cinema if there is anything decent on. Oh please don't remind me of my cousework

OP posts:
Roskvawantingsomesunshine · 17/03/2007 16:02

No worries. Oh no, that means it will rain here in a couple of hours. It's gone really cold - I've just been out for a walk with dd and the dog, so I think it's time for a cup of tea...

Mhamai · 18/03/2007 20:56

Hi Roskva, hope you have had a lovely Mothers day. I was in great form earlier but managed to pull my mood up by abandoning the garden centre for today (will do that tommorow) and bringing my ds to a puppet show, which was great! So am sitting down now with a nice glass of wine and going to watch some tv.

OP posts:
Mhamai · 18/03/2007 20:57

Meant to say wasn't in great form.

OP posts:
Roskvawantingsomesunshine · 18/03/2007 21:38

Hi Mhamai, I can't wait for dd to be big enough for things like puppet shows! I think we're in for a long night - she's teething and she has a cold, so at the moment she is not a happy bunny. We didn't keep to our plan today either: it was far too cold to go to the beach. We had a little walk between hail storms. But apart from that I have watched too much TV with a grizzly small person cuddled up to me.

Mhamai · 19/03/2007 11:19

Hi Roskva, hope you didn't have too bad a night with babyRoskva, oh lord, if it's one thing I remember from when ds was a baby it was the sense of feeling so helpless when they were in so much pain despite giving them every gel and chilled rings etc. Anyway I kind of overdid it on the wine last night so don't think I'll be able for the garden centre today, but have planned to go to a friends house later this afternoon so I'm looking forward to that.

OP posts:
Roskvawantingsomesunshine · 19/03/2007 14:28

Ah well, Mhamai, these things just have to be done every now and then . Dd woke us up about every hour last night - she has a really gummy nose, bless her. Tilting the mattress in her bed doesn't help because she usually turns herself around 180 degrees (thank heaven for sleeping bags!). She's bright enough in herself, though, and does not have a temperature, and is eating normally (apart from when dh gave her her bottle). Banana flavour bonjela seems to do the trick for the teeth - 2 have appeared in the last couple of days.

I spent the morning driving to and from Carmarthen (an hour each way) for a 15 min hospital appointment. I have to go to Swansea later in the week for specialist x-rays to decide whether I have a blocked saliva duct or a damaged gland - whatever it is, it is low level irritating/painful and is driving me nuts!

Mhamai · 21/03/2007 12:13

Hi Roskva, oh you poor thing, that gland problem sounds a nightmare, hope you get it resolved soon. Well I've been quite poorly myself, I'm asthmatic and it's very bad, I'm on a course of steroids. I'm very weak and so wil have to leave off the garden centre until I'm back to full strenght.

OP posts:
Roskva70percentcocoa · 24/03/2007 18:59

I hope you're feeling better, Mhamai. I survived the trip to Swansea for x-rays - nothing nasty showed up, but I have to go again for another test they couldn't do because of inflammation.

Mhamai · 27/03/2007 18:34

Oh Roskva, gosh I'm really sorry it's taken so long to reply to you. Has the inflamation gone down? God it sounds really rotten and all that on top of looking after baby Roskva can't be easy Hope this post finds you in good fettle. I won't go into a big shpeeel about what's been going on for me but lets just say I haven't got to the garden centre yet! I'm sat here at the moment buried under a pile of college papers but am fervently [sp?] going to attempt to get there tomorrow.

OP posts:
Mhamai · 27/03/2007 18:35

Oh ps, thanks for asking after me, the asthma has cleared up.
