What shall I plant in here?

Hello! This is the first spring in our new house and I am a very enthusiastic but inexperienced gardener! Any ideas what i shod plant in the gap? Would like something colourful that won't die instantly if the dog runs accross it!

I'm afraid I'm also inexperienced but a good place to start is are there any plants/flowers you really like? I put things in that I've liked in other gardens - for example dicentra which is beautiful in spring and also hydrangea.

My usual suggestion coming up - Cranesbill Geranium, something like Johnson's Blue. It's quite a large strong plant, flowers for a long time and eventually spreads.

Cranesbill geranium is lovely, or you could just stick some annual bedding in there whilst you decide what to do. Some white cosmos or something, although that may get a bit tall.

Yes a proper geranium, or alchemilla mollis.

We have the blue cranesbill geranium in our garden and it's beautiful.

Also that I pulled up alchemellia mollis thinking it was a weed

Loving the Cosmos, also love that verbena bore..something the purple tall one? Does it need to be grown from seed though?

You can either grow the verbena from seed or buy plants. They should be in the garden centres mid May.

My garden is amazing but I literally have no idea what I'm doing so I'm quite wary of over filling borders!

If i bought annuals then i guess that would add some colour whilst I see what comes out over summer.

I would recommend putting in annuals and waiting for a year before putting anything permanent.

Sometimes bare patches of soil might hide some dormant gems, such as autumn flowering or late winter bulbs, and something permanent might be the end of them.
