Don't know if I've left this job late now but I'll ask the question anyway. At the moment I have got some blue geranium edging my patio & although I do love it & it's very pretty when it's in flower, that is only for a few weeks in the summer, then the leaves get all flat & sad looking so I want to dig it up & put some of it somewhere else in the garden. What I would like in it's place is something evergreen & with a bit of height & fast growing so it will look nice this summer, am I asking too much ?! The patio is about 10 feet long so it can't be anything too expensive as I will need to buy a few. Any advice very gratefully received!

How about a 'hedge' of lavanders, rosemary, and bay? They are all low maintenance, pretty, useful and fragrant.

Yes, I've surprised how quick my rosemary has grown. Bay can get really big - it is a tree.

I mean I'm surprised how quickly...

Thanks for that. Do you mean all three together or individually? And are they all evergreen?

you could do the hedge of lavender and also grow some curly parsley if you like to ear it the contrast in colour will be nice or you could get some cherry tomato plants.

alfielooloo, rosemary is evergreen (and has beautiful little blue flowers), lavender is too - there are zillions of diffrent types ranging from white through pinks, purples to deep blue flowers and leaves vary from silvery to dark green.
On second thoughts, maybe not Bay, is too 'shrubby' (they can be kept small but they are a tree...)

Chives, basil and parsley are very easy to grow (chives are pretty purple round heads of flowers too) and would be nice.
And different types of mint (though plant these in a pot - NOT in the ground as they will take over.) The smell will be lovely if you do a mix of these suggestions And they all have culinary uses.

filthymindedvixen, that sounds wonderful, am off the the garden centre this aft to get some lavender & some herbs too I think. Or maybe I should dig up my geranium first, been in a few years so don't know how far down it goes!
