I have made enquires and am waiting for a guy to get back to me with regards to tidying up some hedges in my back garden. His advert said he is happy to give a free quote.
How much am I looking to pay do you think?
TIA

You should ask him what equipment he has. If he uses something like a Stihl petrol hedge trimmer then he has invested good money in the best equipment and, whilst you may pay more per hour, it will be more cost effective as it will take him less time. If he uses a pair of shears you are basically paying for an old man and his shed tools and he will be there for days and cost you an arm and a leg.

I charge £10 per hour, but don't do any hedging but my own,too boring.I think the hedging bods around here charge by the metre.

We pay our gardener £9/hour but if he dies our hedges then he charges £12 as he has brought pretty funky hedge trimming machine which I thin is fair enough.

We don't have hedges to trim, but our gardener charges £130 for a day (usually 8:30ish until 3:30 ish). We're in North Herts if area makes any diff to prices.

We did once use a guy who charged £10 an hour, but he turned up for a few hours one day (was supposed to be here for 3 days), we paid him cash, and never saw him again!

Thanks for the tips. The man has called me this evening to say he is coming on Sunday morning to give me an estimate. Getting worried now that I'll feel obliged to say yes to him doing the work.
