What is this tree

We moved in to a new house in winter so never seen tree with leaves on. I'm trying to identify it but struggling. Any ideas? The pic with leaves is taken from the estate agents website when we were viewing so I'm afraid I don't have a better pic than that. The other pic I've taken today. Can anyone help?

the bud looks much like the ones on our rowan, so do the shape of the branches.

One of the reasons I ask, and I'm no gardener so this is quite possibly a stupid question. My garden has suddenly sung up with loads of little plants/buds. I was wondering if they may be from my trees seedlings? What ever is growing is all over my garden and whatever they are, they're all the same.

Ooh ooh I think it might be a sorbus, but not a rowan, whats the other one. Name gone out of my head, will check books....

www.rhs.org.uk/plants/search-results?form-mode=false&query=sorbus

Lots to choose from here - the RHS website for sorbus.

So I'm thinking of the Service tree Sorbus torminalis. Shape is about right.

Mewling do you know one with red leaves and pink berries? We got one last year but I threw away the label by accident.

A young oak tree looks like this.

S torminalis leaves look like an oak, not pinnate like a normal rowan. Gets white flowers followed by red berries. Good colour in autumn too I think.

Love the garden!

bobsleighteam · 24/03/2017 18:43

It's beautiful in autumn. We were only viewing house then so can't describe it well but stunning amazing colours.

Whatever is springing up all over the garden is probably nothing to do with the tree. Likely weeds or perennial plants. Unless sycamore shoots, they have helicopter seeds which may come from the nearby woods.
When you say everywhere do you mean lawn and beds?
It is usually hard to identify from seedlings but some pics might help us to identify what they are.

MewlingQuim · 24/03/2017 18:50

doublesnap there are loads of different rowans, different varieties have red, yellow, orange, pink or white berries. Most go red in the autumn. I am no expert, just a bit of a fan. They are beautiful trees Smile

bobsleighs leaf struck me because there used to be a service tree outside my previous work place and I passed it every day thinking it was an oak tree, then the berries came out all red. I had to look it up because I had no idea what it was.

Mewing I think you are right. I've Google imaged and that's the closest image to my tree. It's definitely not a rowan. I'll try and take pic of my saplings?? But it's quite dark now. I think they may have come from the 'helicopter seeds' all over my garden. I thought they were maple seeds? As I say I'm no gardener! They kind of look like a helicopter seed one little stalk with two matching leaves either side. They have not been planted because they are growing all over including in a bit of sand between garden and drive! But I'm right by a small wood so my tree is not necessarily the parent!

I doubt the seedlings are from your tree bobsleigh they sound like sycamores. Mow them. Mow them dead.
