Here goes, and feeling bit cheeky as I didn't post much on the last one.

A fine autumn day here, with much seasonal clearing done. Now I come to think of it, is there ever a non-clearing season? :o

Loving that coronilla too. So many plants, so little room!

wotsthis · 25/04/2018 08:20

Mine's definitely a coronilla, thanks! Not what I expected at all! I highly recommend it, by the way! But I've not been trimming it as I should, so I'm going to have to try and shape it up, now.

MrsBertBibby · 05/05/2018 19:59

AT LAST! A day of digging and stuff. Buckets of weeds evicted, 4 plants in the ground, and high hopes of getting the sweet pea wigwam erected tomorrow afternoon.

SeaRabbit · 09/05/2018 06:49

Our garden looks better than it ever has thanks to the cold weather (not so many weeds) and then the recent fine weather for me and MrSeaR to get out and weed, tidy and stake. I've even sowed a few vegetable seeds.

The ancient lemon verbena in a pot was in the garage for the very cold weather but still lost its crown. However it's shooting from the base which could be A Good Thing as with one rather crooked stem it was always a funny shape. And my back up lemon verbena in the garden is also shooting. I make a cake flavoured with the leaves, so need two bushes. And it's still sunny today, yippee.

SeaRabbit · 09/05/2018 08:45

Ooh ooh, mes braves.

I sometimes dip into an EU-sponsored video channel on an App called Arte which offers documentaries on all sorts of subjects. I have discovered that they are currently showing a strand called Gardens Near & Far. It features lots of lovely gardens in 1/2 hours programmes - the one on Tresco expires today but there are plenty more. I haven't had chance to look at them in depth, but they seem to be in French with English subtitles.

UnaOfStormhold · 09/05/2018 10:26

It's so up and down this time of year! Happy to discover my goji berry and feijoas have put out leaf buds as I'd thought they were dead, less happy to discover my new mulberry bush and my pumpkin and courgette seedlings have had all their leaves devoured by slugs. Still no sign of life on the calycanthus floridus or my second chilean guava but not given up hope yet!

Lemon verbena cake sounds lovely Searabbit.

My patience with Banksaei Lutea has finally paid off. 4 years bit well worth it.

Fingers crossed Una, and Izzy that is fabulous. I thought it was rather tender, and if so, it's amazing that it survived the cold snap

MrsBertBibby · 09/05/2018 22:56

Wow Izzy!

Hello everyone .
Gosh, the weather is a bit up and down .
The amelanchier was a tweak disappointing this year - flowered and gone in no time, but to make up for it, the wind didn't come after the flowering cherry came out properly, so that was a bonus. My flower sowing is pathetic this year - only 4 sunflowers have germinated, so had to do more, and everything else has just stood still.
One nice thing - I had to move a tree peony last year , and another one which has been doing a move around every two years ( thanks DH ..) - both have flowered really well this year - I wonder if they liked all the rain ?
I have been a bit busy trying to catch up with my veg gardening, and I now realise the weeds have made a concerted comeback at home ....

I’ve just spent from 9.30 till 3 pm gardening!
All the coutyard pots in the right place now the frost has gone ( hopefully) and all the corners swept of winter debris.
The green house was overflowing, so I’ve dared to put out summer bedding in the large pots and garden.
Plus a bit of weeding.
Now I’ve sat down, I don’t think I’ll ever move again!
My tree Peony is in a pot grown since it was 6inches high, it’s now 3 foot, but has never flowered. Maybe I should plant it in the garden.

I took a woodcutting axe to a cactus today. It had three stems and was 10 feet tall, and falling over due to too much water. A shame as it brought down a splendid bougainvillea (see below) which had grown round it, but it'll grow back. It will take me three weeks to get rid of it in bits via the gardening bin. It was spiny afternoon's work as both cactus and bougie were well-armed. But so was I with garden fork and axe. What way to spend Mother's Day. Smile

Some long-awaited rain arrived on Friday: Tah dah....instant weeds. I shouldn't complain as it has been dry since June last year.

Fantastic bougainvillea! I’ve often admired them when abroad, which is where you obviously are.
I can’t imagine ‘dry since last June’. It rained overnight here and the sun is out so everything will be growing ( including weeds) today 😁.

MrsBertBibby · 16/05/2018 06:22

That's an amazing bougie!

echt · 28/05/2018 08:45

I planted out the sweet peas yesterday, a wigwam in the front garden bed. It's been an unseasonable 20, so much sitting out and soaking up the sun.

Let's bump this thread! How are our gardens dealing with the heat? Mine's not too bad flower-wise, but things are not really growing.

gardeningprobs · 25/07/2018 14:04

I've started a new thread but maybe I should have posted on here. Can anyone help identify this fruit for me?

Feijoa?

My garden is coping, but rose flowers are frying as they open and then sit there dried.
I’m busy building up my collection of Hydrangeas, the garden centres don’t seem to be able to keep them in good condition, so I’ve just got a couple more in the reduced section.
Don’t know what the fruit is could be ornamental quince.

bookbook · 28/07/2018 10:47

hello! I was just thinking to go find this thread too!
It has ben so, so dry here . Garden is not coping very well at all, but to be fair, I have done just bare minimum watering of new shrubs planted last year.
One bonus - my hibiscus are in flower early , and really enjoying the heat
But I think I have lost 2 hydrangeas and a lot of young perennials I planted in our new border .
We did get a lot of rain overnight though, so somethings will be okay.
My acer drummondii is shedding leaves everywhere, just like autumn .
That is an interesting fruit, but sadly, no idea -

bookbook · 28/07/2018 10:56

oh, forgot - my day lilies haven't flowered :( I have quite a nice area of them, been there for years, flower year in, year out ( I did thin out a few in the spring ) , but a few hidden in the dry shade elsewhere have flowered, so I am assuming its heat/sun

PostNotInHaste · 29/07/2018 05:20

My day lilies are flowering but my hibiscus doesn’t, was going to move it but didn’t get round to it. My agapanthus have all flowered for th3 first time so that’s a result. Lost a fair bit though as haven’t really watered.

My Cobacea scandens has some flower buds appearing. Got the purple and white variety so hoping they’ll look good later this summer. I’ve spent most of my gardening energy on the allotment really.

SeaRabbit · 29/07/2018 07:53

My day lilies have flowered, but not my hibiscus, too. Some of my agapanthus got caught in the beast from the east and looked dead, but are shooting, even the one in the bed is showing now although I won't get any flowers this year I think. It's raining here yippee.

PostNotInHaste · 29/07/2018 08:32

Here too Searabbit, absolutely lovely !

echt · 06/09/2018 22:45

Spring is getting its stride here in Melbourne, and for once, very one of the dendrobium speciosum is going to fewer. They sulked for years ( literally) after being split up. When they're blooming properly, I'll post a pic. Boronia is in flowering two pots next to the front door so it catches the afternoon sun. Heavenly pong.
