Has anyone successfully grown this from seed? I bought a plant today from Morrisons - they've opened their outside garden bit for the first time this year hooray - after hearing so much about it on here

I've read about taking cuttings but my success rate isn't brilliant. Willing to try though. In the meantime one popped up last year in a mixed pot I inherited. It has quite a few dried seed heads on it that I was about to discard. Is it worth scattering the seeds?

Cuttings of this are the easiest thing. I bet If you pull a couple of the tips off and stick them in the ground you'll have new plants in 8 weeks.

I've never tried from seed though.

I have never known it to seed naturally.
Good to propagate as it is relatively short lived.
Cuttings are easy, the hard bit is trying to find a shoot without a flower head as they root less well.

Are there other kinds of perennial wallflower? I have one from a church sale which will allegedly be red. Dying for it to come out to see what it Is!

Thanks all! It's always mentioned on here so I thought I'd give it a whirl seeing as it's purple and wildlife friendly I love the colour and structure of the leaves too.

Incidentally they were selling them in Waitrose today for...£8 a pot

Make sure you harden it off properly - Morrisons' things are usually used to being in warm places IME.

I have had this in a border for the last 5 years... I just chop it after it has finished flowering and the seed heads are dead..it comes back year after year. I love the smell of it. My mother loved wallflowers!

First flowers on mine have opened. It really is red! I think it's "winter passion". Good old church sales!
