What are your favourite spring to summer container plants?

I'm looking for window box inspiration and I'm not very knowledgeable. The boxes are currently full of dead geraniums. I'd like to get something colourful now that will still look good come Aug-Sept, but that's not going to happen is it? It's full sun.
My neighbours have lovely mini daffs, primroses and hyacinths but they won't last very long will they? I'm too busy (lazy) to keep re-planting.

Go for texture! Stick some spring bulbs in and they will reflower next year, then fill with grasses, Heathers (you can get ones that flower in different seasons) and ferns

I have two large pots which have erysimum bowles' mauve in them. They are pretty all year round and flower almost continuously. Around them I have spring bulbs and I put seasonal bedding in front. The seasonal bedding does need to be changed (I put in violas in the autumn, rip them out in early summer and put in verbena), but even without them it is nice most of the year.

Erysium Winter Orchid is a good do-er- the colour changes from purple to apricot as it ages, and it is scented. Mine was eaten by insects last year (its a member if the cabbage family), but it's grown back, and is flowering beautifully. And I'd get lots of primulas

Primulas, like which? I have African Daisies (Osteosperumum) in some of my beds, really love them.

For primulas head to your most tasteful local garden centres - mostly they offer collections of garish clashing colours, but I can usually find something that is toned down but still cheerful.

There are nurseries that are specialists in primulas too, thought I suspect the really lovely varieties won't last as long in flower as the garden centres' offerings.

I have been thinking about a kind of white/silver/steely blue scheme that would mix Iris reticulata Katharine Hodgkin, silver lamium, muscari azureum and brunnera 'jack frost', maybe with a shot of black for contrast (Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens').

We have a load of Katherine Hodgkin in a pot on the front door step, they've been lovely this year, but have gone over now.

I have popped in some shamelessly lurid red primulas for now.

Last summer, I put 2 bacopa in, and some snapdragons. The bacopa were quite something, they flowered like maniacs all summer and autumn.

My bacopa are in quite small pots on a fence which gets the sun for maybe an hour during the winter. They've been green all winter and are flowering again now. I've been very impressed with them!

It's probably too early to plant them out now but I recommend Scaevola (fan plant) for long- flowering in pots. Last ŷear mine flowered from May to November and they need no dead-heading. They love sun.

Morrison's have garish primula in at the moment for 50p a pot

Our Morrisons generally has a few good cheap things in the plant section .
I got 4 x primula primlet for £2 .Not garish .
