Treestump... what to do with it

We have a massive treestump pretty much smack bang in the middle of our back lawn. We had the tree removed shortly after moving into the property, and it's been cut down almost as low as the ground level , with massive roots visible in places. It was a 90ft Norwegian spruce....

I have no idea what to do with it. House is being extended this year and I want to sort/landscape the garden after. But not sure whether to somehow incorporate it or try and remove it (worry about honey fungus). I don't think it would be possible to completely remove it and all the roots anyway and we don't have access to where it is for heavy duty machinery.

Stick a pot on top of it!

Well yes I did consider that.... but it's over a metre wide, I'd need a big pot!

Would it take a seat, so you could build an arbour over it, and put roses or something up it?

Yes I think it's certainly big enough for a seat, what a great suggestion! I want to add height to the garden so this could work really well thanks!!

I think you need a stump grinder and a tree surgeon. Probably £££ but if you get your garden back it might be worth it.

Either get rid of it properly, with the stump grinder, or turn it into something of a bed (you can use it as a starting point for climbers, for instance). There's nothing worse than something stuck in acres of nothing in a garden - you can surround the ugliest thing with loads of planting and it will look fab by comparison!
