Rhus typhina - Stag's horn Sumach. It can be very invasive with a suckering habit.

I am not sure if I is
I don't remember buying one. It has quite a compact habit. Someone suggested sorbis

I would have said sumac too- those pink stems and the pointiness (technical term) of the leaves... The sorbus sp. I know have slightly more rounded leaves. But as I was discovering earlier on another thread, there are many kinds of Rowan so it could easily be one I just don't know!!

I think it's a Sorbaria sorbifolia

Thank you so much. That is it exactly what it is. I want to buy one more to compliment my Acers.

Wow, I have never even heard of that. It's an absolute cracker of a plant as well.

ooh - just had to google this. Looks interesting, but maybe a bit vigorous not to be in a pot for us ( thicket forming and suckering - . mmmm)

Sosidges · 07/11/2016 11:54

The one in my picture is three years old, so not vigorous at all. I cut it to the ground each year and it grows to about 3 feet.

I got rid of a couple of Spirea this year, so I think this is a good alternative.

I have one in a pot, when it fills the pot, I divide it and give bits away.
