Dense, spiky bushes for a front garden

We live on a housing estate and people are constantly walking over our front garden. I've tried everything - polite requests, planting a border with nice flowers, a low fence. Short of tasers or an electric fence I don't know what to do next!

Can anyone recommend a sturdy border shrub that will fight back please? I'm fed up with the damage being done to the garden.

Berberis has lovely spikes, Holly bushes can be clipped to a hedge.

Pyracantha is easy, and would work well. Or you could plant roses?

Hawthorn. It grows reasonably fast. We had the same problem and I now have a sturdy mixed hedge of hawthorn and beech.

Thank you for those ideas. I have noticed Berberis before as I like the colours of the leaves JT05.

I'd love to think that if I planted roses they wouldn't get trampled but those that follow stray footballs etc seem happy to batter my rose bushes and walk over my lavender too notaflyingmonkey .

I like the idea of hawthorn too Geraniumred - definitely a plant to watch out for!
