Any way these can be pruned to prevent vertical growth?

We've got a stunning specimen in our garden, with several "trunks", the tallest of which is about 10'. The neighbour is complaining because, due to the way the gardens face and the ground slopes, it means the sun shines through the leaves of the tree into their glass roofed sunroom (which is on the side of her house) rather than give them full sun.Blush

We were going to take the two tallest Trunks out, but can we prune the smaller ones in some way to prevent them growing up as tall and causing the same problem again?

Oh honestly, who wants full sun in a sunroom anyway? They will bake!

If you cut back the tallest stems, you're right to think the others will grow. But you should also get new shoots coming. The best thing might be to see this as a rolling programme of maintenance where the heads are cut every few years.

I think you're supposed to cut them in spring, not in autumn -do check, as this could be vital.
