Storing bulbs

I've had a gorgeous display of hyacinths in planters this year. Advice seems to be to lift and store them. What should I use to store them?

(Had planned to leave them be and shove planters behind garage until next Spring!)

Lift and store once the leaves have died back. Right now, they need deadheading and a good ole feed (a few times) and a rest in the pot until the plant has reabsorbed all the energy from the leaves and they have gone all yellow and orrible.

Then it's into a dark and dry place. I have heard people swear by fruit nets, suspended from the ceiling of a shed. Apparently this is supposed to keep the mice away!

Alternatively, you can pop them into a dryer place in the garden and hope. This is what I do, and I cannot be arsed with lifting and storing anything!! Also, I find that no matter how much I fuss most tulips and hyacinths, the bulbs are never as good in years 2 and 3 as they were in year 1.
